1940 Ford Truck Windshield questions
Starting to assemble my '40 1/2 ton truck and have some questions regarding the windshield. Is there a frame like the cars have? Is there chrome trim on the outside? I'm missing everything associated with the windshield. I know there is inside garnish molding (I haven't found that either). Thanks.

No frame Doug. A rubber kit like this,

Re: 1940 Ford Truck Windshield questions
Doug, First off, I am not a fan of repo parts if original ones can be found. That being said, the original inside garnish moldings are usually rusted out on the bottom. Don't buy any unless you see them or get pictures. If found, usually not expensive.
Bob Drake did tool up these moldings some years ago. I think they worked good enough. The inside center strip should be available from a Barner as they did not suffer from abuse or rust. The outside stainless center strip can be found original but many are dented. Also Bod Drake did make this part also. Don't know how well it fits but being a simple part should be workable if there is a problem. The only parts involved is the glass, the rubber, inside moldings, inside center strip, inside little bow tie piece at top of center strip and the outside stainless center strip. If you find that the holes in the cowl for mounting the inside garnish moldings are too big due to rust or damage (very common), Roy Nacewicz has trim screws in a bigger size with correct size heads. Just an opinion 32 roadster, 40 pickup |
