Default Question re brake rod return springs

Today I installed the brake rods on the 1930 town sedan that I'm restoring. The brake rod return springs seem to me to be too close together. As seen in the attached photo, one spring touches both rods. This makes me wonder if such contact will interfere with the springs' performance.

Do they need adjusting? Or will they operate fine as they are?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Tom,
Maybe it's just me, but....do you have the return springs facing the
correct way? The should be forcing the brake rods back...towards the
backing plates.

I pulled the new repop flat spring steel return springs off and threw them in the bin.
They won't hold shape for very long and just rattle after a while. If you're not into Judging, I would reccommend the later wire type as they actually work as a return spring, hold the shape and resistence, and are easier to mount up right.

Also make sure the return springs (antirattlers) are on the correct side of the mount, so they exert the most pressure. Fronts mount on the front side, and rears mount on the rear side.

In your picture it looks like they are too wide and therefore one is rubbing the other brake rod. If that's the case, maybe you can take a little off the spring in that area to give clearance.

I used the wire type on my 30... I find they work really great. Never had any luck at all with the flat type. With the wire type, as soon as I take my foot off the brake the pedal comes right back and the stop light switch comes off. They worked so great on my 30, I'm using them on the 29 Phaeton I'm restoring.

I'll try the spring-style. Thanks for the suggestion.
