Default Hershey Gets 9 in. of Rain!

Has anyone heard how bad things are at Hershey Park? The evening news mentioned that parts of the park are under water and the park is closed. Also a water treatment plant is shutdown. Will this impact the fall meet October 5-8? Ed

Sad about the Hershey park zoo animals, they shot the buffaloes before they drowned and lots of other animals died that they couldn't get to high ground. Sounds like someone didn't have a plan .

I doubt that this round of rains will affect the Hershey meet but if these tropical storms and hurricanes keep tracking as they have been, who knows what's in store for that first week in October. Since most of the "fields" are now paved parking lots, things don't get as mushy and muddy as they did years ago.

I am soft-hearted about animals. It saddens and outrages me when they are mistreated or abused. If you are also disturbed about the deaths of the zoo animals you can sign a petition here to ask the Hershey officials to review their evacuation policies.

Sorry if this is off topic, but it was pertinent to the thread.

Hershey is in bad shape right now...

I'm sure what places can re-open will do so as fast as possible to rake in the income from the Hershey show to help with repair expenses..

If any of you know of the Pizza hut and Wendy's down the road a bit... they were under water to the bottom of the roof...

With it being 30 days away, trust me when I say there will be a Hershey. There is too much money coming into the local economy in Derry Township to not hold it.
Here's a thought for you............did you ever wonder how much money was walking around all the parking lots during Hershey week? It's a number with a lot of zeros following it.

I'm sorry for what happened there with the flooding, but I'm even more upset over the loss in that Zoo . I've been there several times as a newlywed and with my 2 kids when the were small.

How and why do you plan for 9" of rain? Upstate NY and Vermont lost a number of roads and bridges two weeks ago with Irene. We juat had a lot of flooding here in Ma. I saw water where I have never seen it flood before. I feel bad for the people that had to make these difficult decisions.

Hi Frank,

>>Why do you plan for 9" of rain?

Because they also had a high water situation in 2004 where animals at The Hershey Zoo were lost.

>>How do you plan for 9" of rain?

By having a workable evacuation plan including the manpower and facilities to put it into action - just like any other contingency plan.

I do feel sorry for the zoo officials having to make life or death decisions, but it seems as though (from what I've read) the zoo officials were way behind the situation, and it was a question of too little too late.

The link I provided was to a petition where you can sign and ask the zoo officials to review and provide a better plan. A pretty mild form of protest.

www.bestfriends.org has bumper sticker I've always liked: "Kindness to animals builds a better world for everyone".

Best regards, no flame intended

Henry
