The Ford Barn

Hey there everyone,

Since I've been active in other forums, figured I might as well sign up here. My car might not be old enough for you guys (and gals) though.

It started out as a '55 Tudor sedan, 272, 3 on the tree. Had a few changes made during it's long life, heck, it's older than I am by quite a bit.

Customline, now with some Vickie trim, that swooping 'v' is just too nice looking to pass up.

As far as the powertrain goes, there has been a few Y-blocks in it's life but now it's time to grow up and go with a built 351 Cleveland and a toploader 4 speed. 9" rear out of a '58 Ford.

Some pictures, more to come as I finish the drivetrain.

very nice car..had one just like it only solid black years ago,
pulled the 272 Y-block and put in a 406-3-2's 4 speed, what
a great ride..should have kept it

Great looking '55. Good drive-train combo, has to be fun to drive. I have a '56 Customline with an FE and four-speed. Nothing like a four-speed!

Nice car. I have had a Customline with 351 cleveland, fmx and 9". Definitely need a disc brake front end with the extra go. It is a really easy fit and doesnt need any modification to the chassis to fit. Who knows one day you may want to change it back.
Personally i would stick with the old y and fit a later auto.

Welcome to the forums. My '55 has Y-block/Ford-o-Matic. You gotta a nice lookin 2-dr sedan. A couple years ago I sold a black '55 steering wheel with a re-chromed horn button with the ring sawed off exactly like that one on E-Pay. Was that you?

I don't know what it is about cars with a 4 speed and bench seats that I like so much, but your 55 is one of the nicest I've ever seen. That is really a great color combination, and I like it better every time I see it.

Thank you everyone for all the kind words.

The pictures make the car look a lot better than it is, there's some rust in the floor, rockers, fenders and rear quarters. But nothing that can't be fixed.

I do enjoy driving the heck out of it, even if it's been almost a year since I've been able to now. Back in April I started to build the 351C and it's been a slow process because I'm doing things right but I can only spend pennies at a time so to speak.

I fixed the rust in the drivers side rear quarter, so the passenger side is the "good" side.

I love the jet age.

And to answer some of your questions, the steering wheel has been like that for at least 11 years, sorry.

The paint was done about 10 years ago and those are '96 Subaru colors. I always thought it was a shame Ford didn't offer a red/black color combo back then. The car was originally red/white, hence the interior.

My Gladiator has the AMC 327. A great motor but impossible to find parts for. '68 was the last year it was used too, all left overs. Doesn't say much for how well those trucks sold back then as AMC discontinued the 327 at the end of '66. Oh, it did come with a factory 4BBL, which is almost impossible to find.

And lastly, my screen name has been carried over from many years ago when I owned 17 second and third gen Camaro's and Firebirds. As you can see I've grown up since then.

Ford did have a tutone black-and-red as well as a black-and-yellow combo on some Fairlane series models in '55. They had a lot of combos with white, but they also had two shades of blue or two shades of green on some Fairlane series models

That 88 scirocco is a nice ride also, not many of those left. Welcome to the forum. Many interests here. Ford is #1 but most of us have some other interesting cars and trucks as well.

Beautiful ride. Love the colors, and the v8/4sp is a wonderful combination. How did you manage to find a sunny day to take pictures in Seattle? Those are almost more rare than than the wheels
