Default Trip down Memory Lane Or why young kids are messed up!!

Taking a trip down Memory lane today~~~~

How many remember going to the local swimming Hole Then after changing up & taking the cut offs and hanging them on the antenna to dry as you cruised along with you arm around ( insert name here ) and trying to keep the AM adjusted to maybe Wolf Man Jack.

Heck the kids now have NO Wolf man and may not even know the name of the Girl his arm is around.

And after all that he Ain't got no Antenna to hang the cut offs on.
Throws them on the windshield where the antenna is at at 30 MPH they go BYE ~ BYE

Hey Scott, I had to take a second look to see if you were from Vermont. I'm NOT proud of our reputation!

Let's see, today that swimming hole is either polluted or a housing development is built where it used to be... And the kids listen to their choice of music on an I-pod, not the radio, and AM is mostly talk, very little music... or DJ to identify with. As for not knowing (or remembering) the name of the girl you're with... Well, I was guilty of that once or twice back in my younger days... LOL

Hey, at my age I am lucky to remember the name of the gal I have my arm around, and we've been married for 52 years. LOL

Growing up we were surrounded by folks with knowledge that passed on that first hand, with a lecture.

Now a question or problem is solved through an in-human devise with no life learned knowledge/example to retain, when the battery dies....Duh

Todays kids have to understand, "You got to fail to succeed"

I tell my 18 year old grandson about the way it was back in 1955. Not sure he believes me. After graduating high school I was working 5 days a week, 12 hours a day in a service station and cleared $40. Had my own car and a steady girl...

I shudder just thinking about it. Thank goodness I joined the air force.

I don't know if it was the good old days but I will never forget the days with 3 channels on the black and white TV and having to go outside and turn the antena when you changed channels . We had a party line on the telephone and had to listen for 3 shorts and a long ring to know if it was for us. We have come a long way.

These memories are the same for me, and I often wish more folks had grown up in the country or small towns like we did. But.......I remember my grandparents and parents talking about how good it was in "the old days". Now I do it. The other day, my 30 year old son was talking about "kids these days".

Maybe it's part of getting old?

Sure hate to admit that though.............

It gets worse. I saw a segment on one of the major networks news shows that says that a large percentage of today's kids are not even interested in getting their drivers licenses. They are more interested in video games and social networking, and are perfectly happy to get a ride with a parent, relative, or a friend. I think they will get a rude awakening when they have to take full responsibility for their lives, but it seems this is the way it is these days. (BTW, I can confirm this after interacting with my own and my friends grandkids.) Remember how bad we all wanted to get our licenses?

Was that the early evening date? Or the late evening date. You know it a small town when you find out your father once dated the mother of the gal you are going out with (true story....more than once)

We have to remember Life is like going to the Cigar City Flatheads Barners Bash.
The road we take to get there may not be the same road as our children or grandchildren
Take , But in the end we all end up getting to the same place~~~

Mainly generational issues.

The biggest change has been in marketing, including the must have now, and cotton wool kids getting all their experience from technology (computer games).
There is some out there that buck this trend but to be honest it would be lucky to be 40%.

The thing that us old farts fail to understand, is that was our reality. And we loved it. The kids today have their own reality. They dont want to know about ours, just as we didn't want to know about our parents' reality. Our parents despaired of us just as we despair of the young ones today. The reality of the kids of today is really not that much different in concept, just in details. We dug cars, they dig cars. We dug chicks, they dig chicks. We dug music, they dig music. I know a lot of young people through my work and also my other hobby, and they are by and large very nice, decent people. You have to remember, we had a lot of ratbags in our day too. We had hooligans, we had thugs, we had gangs, very little changes really.

My wife and I were driving through town recently and noticed the quiet little neighborhoods with not a soul in site. This is summer vacation now! When I was a kid, the first thing I did every day on vacation was to get on my bike and meet all of the other kids in the neighborhood. We would either be playing frisbee, street hockey, whiffleball. The girls, hopscotch, jump rope, etc. There are NO kids in ANY neighborhood outside playing. What have we created???

Parents who over-schedule their kids.
