Garlits Museum
A lot of us have been to the Garlits Museum in FLA, but here is a different prospective I think.
I went there as part of a group that was taking a Caribbean cruise which was oriented to car guys and gals. Not much in the way of automotive things while aboard ship but we did visit various tourist locations (nice to leave the NJ freeze for a short time). The visit to the museum was an outing the day prior to getting on the ship. Not only did we see the usual part of the museum but we also toured the various buildings where a lot of Don's personal items were kept. Don himself gave us the tour which was very interesting , even more so as Don told us stories about the various items in his collection in the out-buildings, his different races around the country and his interactions with the other racers His latest projects are a T Roadster with an Ardun (pictures) and a recreation of his first dragster (which was based on early Ford rails). One very interesting item was a enclosed dragster trailer which had one wall adorned with a pictorial history of his life. I don't know how much of the outbuildings are part of the normal visit, but here are some pics that I think may be of interest. |

Re: Garlits Museum
Been there a couple of times. The last time Don spent some time with me teaching me about door locks on his 40 Ford. Last year I sent him a supercharger setup for a new static flathead display. Incredible place.

Re: Garlits Museum
Don is a super guy and the museum is outstanding we (the cigar City Flatheads) mad an unscheduled stop at the museum last year on our way to the Moonshine Festival when the generator/fan stud snapped on my '51 F-1. We did get to see the ARDUN project, very cool.

Re: Garlits Museum
Does he still have the nos flathead block in the original Ford create on display? Time for me to go back for a visit. I saw him years ago across the room from me eating with his wife at a Cracker Barrel. Wish I would of said Hi to the guy..

Re: Garlits Museum
I shot two videos with Don for our Vic's V8 Video's home video project, one is with him in the V8 Ford part of the museum. I haven't been through the museum in a year or so, maybe next year, for the 10th annual Florida "Barner's Bash", we'll make the museum our Saturday road trip and tour.

Re: Garlits Museum
Agreed. I guess Big Daddy is a flathead fan from way back.
Curious, what's the deal with all the different transmissions on the rack? One looks like it was modified for a hydraulic throw out bearing set-up. |

Been to the Museum a number of times!
Best was as a 16-17 year old going to Kissimmee and watching him drag race in the '50s. http://www.garlits.com/newshome.htm A TRUE LEGEND!! |

Re: Garlits Museum
The one on the top, right side of the rack is for a '32 with the grease cup and hose on the inspection cover to lube the throwout bearing.

I've never seen more Stromberg 97's than I saw at this museum! I think he has a corner on
the market! |
