Tough to say without seeing it, but it doesn't sound like anything I'd pay $14k on.

It wouldn't be for me, I cant afford it. However, my opinion, Victorias run 'all over', especially high as finished cars. I know of one that was in mid/high triple digits as a finished car. My point is, wouldn't make much difference if it was 7 or 14 as a starting point. This will be a small fraction when finished.
I offer what I spent on a sedan as a reference. Initial price becomes more-or-less irrelevant. It's expensive, even if you start at zero.

Ora, you have to start with what is will be worth after it's finished then how much your going to spend on parts etc and how much labor you will have in it at $5.00 an hour. You will lose at least $20,000 is my bet. G.M.

Then again, a lot of people are in this hobby for the love of it, and not to make a profit.

I've always felt that looking at the old car hobby as though it was a business is all wrong. How much it's worth when it's done don't matter if you don't sell it.
If you like a certain car and want to own and drive a real nice one, the best way might to buy a restored one.
If you enjoy working on old cars and are up to the challenge, buy a rough one and get ready for a long time project - maybe one that's never exactly "done". It sounds like this vicky is in this catagory.
Buying a rough one and paying someone to work on it gets way out of hand.
If you want to get into old cars to make a profit, that's a whole nother deal.
Sounds like that car would be a good deal for 5k, it would be worth more if the frame and floor are real good - remember that rust is always a lot more than it looks at first.

Ora, don't let your emotions empty your wallet.
That 'project" will quickly become a money pit with no bottom., in my opinion.

With that much rust you are taking on a very expensive project if you are not a body man. Frankly I wouldn't touch a car like that unless I was real handy at body work, paint, and mechanics. The other part is your age. If you are over 60 you are looking at a project that could take 5-10 years easily and a ton of money. Take that same money and go looking for a nice older restoration that you can drive now, not 5-10 years from now. Be patient they are out there. TRhat car sounds like a $5000 car on a good day. It's basically parts.
If you go ahead and buy it, sure as heck a week later you will find a nice older restored one for sale. Happens every time.

There's no mention of the condition of the floor which has a significant bearing on the worth of the car (and a large cost to replace/restore if it is shot).

Chrome ,paint, tires , driveline rebuild, glass & upholstery maybe $20,000-25,000 or so if you have it done, so maybe $5,000 to start might work out.

I bailed out of several very nice cars that I owned for many years because you cannot build them for anywhere near what you can buy them for already done. My 3-W sold for almost 40K and needed more work to be completed. If someone were to give me that for free I would turn them down. It takes 2-3X to build them for what you can buy them for already done.My cabriolet was the same story. I sold it with a perfect metal body but it needed everything else. I bought a finished cabriolet show car for way less than 20K more. My Victoria was the same story. I found it locally and bought it because it was an original, rust free car that needed very little to be perfect. If I were to try and build that car it would be at least 50K and at least a year of my time. I enjoyed building many cars over the years for myself but the financial realization of continuing that didn't make sense for me. Times have changed. In my opinion you can save yourself a lot of time, money, and headaches by searching for the car you are looking for and being prudent about what you pay for it. I would not be interested in the project Victoria you spoke about at any price unless you have some sentimental attachment to that particular car for some reason. Buy the best car you can and you will end up with the best car possible.

Who pays them self $5. an hour? I usually figure on $.50 an hour on the high side.

I bought my Victoria body for $125 and have been gathering " real steel" for it now for 5 years and have everything. Just bought a frame to street rod it with all steel.Time to get started.
