Re: A 8n tractor radius rod socket question
Cast steel is exactly that; steel that has been cast. Cast iron has a lower strength and ductility than cast steel, which makes it less suitable for applications that need high strength and may experience sudden shocks like suspension components.

Bet it is regular old Chinese mystery cast iron, seems most everything repop is made out of that stuff, including parts that should be forged steel.

Re: A 8n tractor radius rod socket question
well here is my solution, the drop out plate replacing the original ball mount is in rustoleum red... it has the original frame socket plus, a lower socket flipped around and tucked inside the frame socket, I have another wishbone cap from my parts '40 ( now buried in 3 ft of snow
) to clamp it in. The second pic is for another question, how many captured nuts are used on a 40 frame, I got one left!... With evidence of a few more... but there must be even more! |

Re: A 8n tractor radius rod socket question
Well it's just sorta dummied up... got home and discovered that I didn't have a flywheel that would accept a 9" clutch, taking the flywheel to the machine shop to get it drilled (just like I had to do with the '31). Next week I hope to have it in the frame so I can finish the floor work.
to see more of the build see this HAMB link: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/t...-start.813648/ |

This thread has morphed a little... but here is a progress shot on my coupe....
I couldn't afford the Carpenter floors, so I had to go with EMS panels... |
