Thumbs down 29 starts and after few seconds backfires and

1930 Sport Coupe - Yesterday it was running for an hour and today After it starts it backfires a couple times and stops. It will immediately start again but it repeats the backfire and stop. Up until now run it all summer and run like a new one. Does it sound gas ( tank half full ) or ignition and if ignition where should I start looking ?
Thanks Wayne

I'd start with fuel flow to the carb, then ck points/cond.

I always start with the easiest checks first. Holding the coil wire 1/4" from the head nut and looking for a hot blue spark is probably the easiest check. However, in this case it sounds like a fuel related problem.

Not a problem, as either spark or gas flow only takes a minute or two to check. Just do the check first rather than start by throwing new parts at the problem and hoping for the best.

Yes, check the spark as always as the first step . Back firing through carb is often sign of fuel starvation, whilst it stops the fuel is seeping through to refill the carb sufficiently to restart. - Check , filters if you have any, sediment bowl, and blow through fuel pipe to dislodge any rust particles sitting in the outlet of the tank.

Did you do anything else like remove the carburetor, or do anything to the gas lines?
If so, you might want to make sure the ferrules are not too far up on the lines because that's one thing that stops the gas flow quicker than you can blink your eye!

Check the spark plugs. Make sure they aren't fouled.

Had the same thing and found restricted fuel flow. The shut off valve in the tank had some crap in it. Took it off and flushed it all out and been fine every since

Sounds to me like a stuck float valve. The same thing happened to my a 2 weeks ago, tapped the carb a couple times and she's been running like a champ since.
