[QUOTE=dumb person;570175]Does anyone actually own a 3d printer? i thought those cost as much as a CNC lathe thing (priced in $millions).

There are tanks out there. Hershey you can pick one up for $250.00 to $350.00 yes some have dents but they are out there. A friend is down to his last 6-10 tanks... What is driving the problem of NEEDED TANKS are the repro. roadster bodies[Brookville] if you are doing original.I have judged at A.A.C.A. meets and yes i come across repro bodies..The one way to tell it [ deluxe roadster with oval speedometer]... Early 1930 tanks...NO Deluxe Roadster has oval speedometer only round. Dan Steel has a n.o.s. early 1930 tank forsale he bought by mistake[west coast] 1-206-525=2669. He now has the correct later tank for his car. Doug Bruce has tanks 1-607-849-3454 [east coast] shipping is up there in price... I bet Berts' might have a few around.I have a near mint tank with original paint [swapped it out with a hot rodder ...i had come across a right hand tank and did the swap since he was going to cut it up anyway as Bob said.]

To clarify something Peter said above, even with all the reproduction bodies out there, there is still a HUGE supply of "core" gas tanks available. The issue is the majority of them has rust issues internally and need to be restored, --much like the rest of the car!

Nope I get up at 5:00 every morning (we start work at 7:00) ...which I realize is like "mid-morning" for you and your restaurant!

(Minor thread drift in this post)
3D printers might come in handy for working on really rare cars or cars they stopped making parts for 20 years ago but i think (not sure what the latest ones are like) that they only make plastic or stainless steel powder fused with bronze & not machine finished, so some chassis parts like spindles could be made or plastic copies of pot metal parts that might not be made (speedometer cases?) insulators for ignition switches, lamp sockets & such. So many parts made for model As already though.

We should give it serious thought. These old tanks are getting worn out. A rear tank and electric pump may be the answer with a new top and bottom to contain the glove compartment stereo and heater.

I do not like your idea either. I hate electric fuel pumps on old Fords or other old cars and trucks. They are the easy way out for the parts man.

I am not sure what you mean by a 3-d printer. Please explain the difference from a 3-d printer and a regular printer.

With a 3d printer you can print a working wrench, a 2d printer you can print a picture of one.

The Minnesota State Fair had a 3D printer about 5 years ago. Just push a button and out comes a small working plastic differential.
