finally up and running

Bought the truck not running. Had the engine rebuilt and installed. Driving to identify the small kinks over the past week.
Will continue to drive it as a daily run about town. I'm having a good time.
Next on the list are tires, exhaust and rear bumper in that order.

I'm learning as I go and if you look closely you will see that the generator had dripped oil. When I looked closely I see that there's a place on the generator to drip oil in. What kind of oil should put in there and how often.

Just a couple drops of motor oil, as I've been told.

Few drops of 30w should do. Depending how much you drive it. I usually oil cups every time I change the oil. Never had a problem. You'll probably get several differant answers.

Lookin' good! Make sure that the generator bushing has a hole in it for the oil; some replacement bushings don't require oil.

Blackwalls for the working week and trim bands for Friday and Saturday nights.

I was under the assumption that the oil needed to go through the dipstick tube.
I think the builder did say something about a vent but I don't remember. I have emailed him. I didn't install this so and I'm basically learning as I go. I think when the first oil was added it went though the remote lines and the filter was filled as well.

Nice truck & nicely painted engine too bad you paint the generator bracket & strap & the thermostat housings. Must be a real pain to drizzle oil in thru the dip stick tube.

very nice truck, I have a 48 f-1 im working on..looks like the builder used the wrong intake..that one is for a 59-a with the breather and oil fill on the back of intake, you need the intake for a 8ba..with breather and fill on front rt, side of intake..this setup gives no way for the engine to breath witch is going to cause internal pressure

Looks like an 8BA intake, has removable freeze plugs in the road draft tube opening and where the oil filler tube would go. Should have a vent tube where fuel pump used to be.

you are right Scott..I didnt see the plugs on the intake..the engine needs the draft tube and the filler tube..bugsiegal..it sounds like you are new to these engines, so if you are not sure what we are talking about..just google ford 8ba..and it will show a picture of an original engine with the tubes we are talking about..it would help your engine breath and would give you a lot better way of putting oil in

what the others said....i think you need at least the oil fill tube to let clean air into engine....and either pcv or down draft tube to let out that air.....might be part of the starting problems you're having....good luck....Mike

You need to let the crank case breath. Does your exhaust show blue smoke? High crankcase pressure will push oil past the rings. Look at parts 6762 an 6763 in the linked diagram. Those need to be put back on.

The builder didn't provide the manifold, I ordered it. I'm sure I asked for an 8BA manifold although I can't find the receipt with the model number on it. The numbers 452 are on top of the manifold if that helps.
Here are two shots of the back with what looks like a breather.
You guys are right I'm new to all this. Is that a breather and if so what else is needed?
No blue smoke coming out the exhaust. Can oil be added through the breather stack if the engine needs oil?

That does appear to be a breather on the back of your engine, but . . . . . .

You were sold a proper manifold for an 8ba. The breather is occupying the place where the stock fuel pump and it's stand normally sit. The two plugged holes in the front of the manifold are for the stock oil filler pipe and its breather cap (both are available in chrome, if you so desire) and a road draft tube to remove the crankcase fumes. Air enters through the breather cap and is exhausted via the road draft tube. There are kits available to replace the road draft tube with a pcv setup, if you're interested.

Sorry but I have to ask this. Did you do the install or did you have someone else do it? If someone else did it ask them what the set up is. It looks like the breather was installed in the back. Yes. That would be where you add oil. The tube at the base of the carb looks like part of a PCV system.
