Re: post #5... Agreed. We had a 49, up to about late 50's. The one thing I remember - those doors would fly open when making a turn. Bad !! I hope the folks that have 49's today have figured out how to make those latches work. Or, maybe there has been a replacement that I'm not aware of ? Our 49 was a pretty poor car. But, nothing wrong that couldn't be fixed today.

the back seat in my Dads Merc was like sitting in your living room on the couch, also your arms where stretch out all the way . it was a nice car to drive

I found this article on a restoration of a 49 convertible, it goes through some issues on 49-51 shoeboxes.

http://powerbyford.blogspot.com.au/2...nvertible.html

I always loved the shoeboxes since I was a kid, finally got a little cash together and bought a 49 Tudor over the inernet, of course I paid too much, found a lot of hidden rust and after I shipped it over to Australia I could have found a decent one here. If only I new what I know now..

Still hooked on reading and learning about these cars more than ever, I'm an addict to say the least.

Just wish I would have gotten one with the overdrive.
