Default Converting to 12V alternator

If I have a 12V system do I abandon 12V regulator when converting to a 12V alternator that has a built in voltage regulator?

No, you don't have to "abandon" it you can leave it where it is but it is no longer part of the system. (just sitting there feeling "abandoned")
