Re: 35/6 pu Frankenstein thingy
Good work so far. I think it is very difficult to build a 35-36 truck using all the original parts. Most have fenders, hoods, beds, etc from other trucks. Have to start with a pretty nice one if you want a simple restore.

Re: 35/6 pu Frankenstein thingy
I'll try to get some pics added some time of the repairs under the cowl rot, its a pain trying to do one at a time from my phone. That's something I should do when I get home with a PC and far less sketchy internet than intermittent LTE to no service at the shop

Re: 35/6 pu Frankenstein thingy
Been a little while since posting. Busy on the truck i guess. Uploaded a few pics, but I'm back cause I got another question.
Started working on the bed and have it all pulled apart. I'll be getting a new rear cross member for the bed as someone had cut it out and welded in a quarter inch thick c beam. My question is where the bed side panels meet the rear cross member should there be a cutout like in the pic or should that be patched. Last edited by grovesmr; 08-25-2016 at 11:27 AM. |

Re: 35/6 pu Frankenstein thingy
Must be the season...I have been away from my 36 project for awhile but just this week started working on it again. Bolted on the rear fenders and running boards, starting to fit the front fenders.

Re: 35/6 pu Frankenstein thingy
That bed looks good to me! I've always wanted to build a truck like this for everyday use, but then I realize it would be another vehicle I'd have to wash and wax and keep looking nice, so I soldier on with my rusty, dented 1999 F150.

Re: 35/6 pu Frankenstein thingy
Sure. Got some doors in rough shape, been working on cleaning those up getting dents out, made an electrolysis tank for them. Got the bed riveted together and mounted on the truck. Innards of the doors were in rough shape, I'll need new window channels and window regulators, think I've been able to repair the door latch mechanisms, I even disassembled the passenger lock mechanism and hand made a mirror image of it and mounted it to the driver latch, I did cheat and pulled a cam from a car unit and reground it to match the pickup cam. Pics in a minute

Re: 35/6 pu Frankenstein thingy
If anyone wants I can upload a bunch of pics of the electrolysis tank and my making of the lock for the driver door. Not much for pics of doing the bed rivets as that's a two man job and the rare extra hands meant I didn't take time to stop and smell the roses |

Re: 35/6 pu Frankenstein thingy
Lots of rust repairs on the passenger door, some dents pulled, and first test fitting on the cab, I'll have to finagle the hinges some more, but it's pretty close now

Re: 35/6 pu Frankenstein thingy
Metal part of the 35-6 floor opening was too narrow for the 39+ pedals, opened it up 2.25"

Re: 35/6 pu Frankenstein thingy
The column drop spacer that was mating the 40s column to the cab was a really ugly piece of plate just bent into a z shape. I didn't like it all. So I pulled a template from the drop and made my own

Re: 35/6 pu Frankenstein thingy
Making some flanges to repair the seat riser where it's like Swiss cheese. That rear panel I don't think I can make correct with my limited roller dies, and lack of any solid area left to determine a profile
