Default 49 F1 Transmission question

I have a 49 F1 with a 6 cylinder floor shift 3 spd I believe. Have not drove the truck or been able to get enough dirt and grease off to really identify it the trans. I want to put a flathead V8 in the truck. Can I use the transmission with the right bell housing?

Yes....if your trans is the original light duty three speed toploader. Ford used the same unit for both the Six and the V8 engines. The difference was in the bell housing (part between the trans case and the engine block) with its starter plate. If you can get the correct bell housing and starter plate, it's all good.

Sometimes you find the 29T cluster gear in pickup truck trannies, but usually it's the 28T. Both are fine.....the 29T will give you a slightly "lower" first and second gear.
