Default 31' Generator Update: working :)

So to review: I tried to lower the generator output by moving the 3rd ring but I suspect I might have messed things up so I took the generator off and discovered the 3rd ring was frozen --it never really moved... I figure maybe I knocked off a wire or something. So I took off the generator.

End cap and 3rd ring:

You'll see why here: two small metal spurs: so I took a very fine file and removed them.

Cleaning up the 3rd ring and putting the generator back in and at idle, 0A, and I took a guess to as where the now MOVABLE 3rd ring might be... I got 8A as I hit the accelerator and as it returned to idle speed the cutout did it's thing 0A.

Aside from the spurs on the 3rd ring.. not sure why but for now I'll take it...

I suspect that when I drove my car after trying to lower the Generator the ammeter showed ~10A discharge at speed... I believe that's an open cutout... When I reassembly the generator, and cut the the output from 12A to 8A with the repair of the 3rd ring and I saw nothing odd (ammeter showing charging) ... So for me the jury is out as to if I fixed the 10A discharge issue... Like the cutout just was stuck open and with me removing it, with the generator 3rd ring repair it might have ? unstuck itself...

good job.
once you are all settled in on this, charge the battery up good with a charger.
then set your third brush to give you about 4 amps during the day while running down the road. (else you will overcharge the battery). If you do any lengthy night driving you will have to adjust the brush to more like 8-10 amps at night then back again for days.

I often find the third brush likes to move around some on its own (vibration and such) and eventually I have to re-position it to maintain the 4 amps during the day

OK thanks, I suspect having it 10A charging for a few months might have caused the old battery's splits... I will at some point use a voltage regulator.. 4A for daytime which is all I do.... Slow black cars at night is not an option for me or Ms. Daisy (my 31'

New guy learning a lot from here thanks...
