Petew, After loosing the white walls & having" a spare (condenser) in the trunk"
to be more era correct you'd have a 1/5th under the seat.

Ha , a breakdown and then a DUI arrest . Now that would be a bad day.

I have done something very similar to that. I figure it is an easy way to test the condenser roadside so long as the spare is good (test it first). If the car stops and the condenser could be the problem, simply disconnect it and connect the spare. If the engine starts again, you have your diagnosis and you can drive home. Replacing the condenser with an untested one, hoping it is OK is a risky venture these days. You could easily still be walking home.

Ida thunk a good ol' Southerner would be carrying a spare condenser or two.

Yawl know NASCAR teams all run used (tested) spark plugs.
