why did he put all those bolts in the dash rail..... I dont know if anyone has had the pleasure of the nuts rusting up on the little area between the dash and where the window seats but it sucks...... theres like 10 of them and I only was ableto get 4 the rest is seized up.... howdoyou get them if they just spin, you cant stick a wrench around it

Re: WHYYY henry ford WHHHYYYY!!!!!!!!!!
I thought the same thing as I tried to hold the tiny nuts in place behind the rear window frame on my '31 Pickup.

If I recall correctly, remove the dash and you will have better access to the bolt heads and the square nuts. In fact, if I remember right, you can grind off the heads. It has been a long time ago but I am pretty sure that is how I did it.

Henry probably did'nt think his cars would get older than he was when he carked it.
80 years of sittin' and you got 4 bolts undone, I reckon that's pretty good. Be fair, you can't blame the engineering department at Ford. |

Re: WHYYY henry ford WHHHYYYY!!!!!!!!!!
there is four of bolts that do not have to be removed the filler panel come off with the tank, one on each end and two towards the middle lok under the dash rail and you will see two bolt heads that are up in a hole, if you have a torch heat the nuts a little and put some windex on them they will come off easier,

Re: WHYYY henry ford WHHHYYYY!!!!!!!!!!
How about removing the dash rail and using a die grinder? If the tank is empty (and it should be) then put a cut off disc on a die grinder and cut the bolt heads or the nuts off the bolts.

Re: WHYYY henry ford WHHHYYYY!!!!!!!!!!
just use Heat dont worry about blowing up i torch around tanks all the time even welded super close to them. if your realy concerne about it drain it and fill with water prob gone. heat that nut red hot and she'll come off nice and easy. remeber gass is not as unstable as one would like to beleve it lights with ignition and takes a hell of alot of heat to ignight from just tempriture.

Re: WHYYY henry ford WHHHYYYY!!!!!!!!!!
Can you just twist (break) the bolts off by overtightening? You'll need to replace them anyway.
