Try twisting and pulling. Some can be stuck pretty tight.

Don't try to pry it out. I take a big pipe wrench, grab the pump (where the gears are) and maybe an extention to put on the pipe wrench, twist the pump back and forth, squirt some weasel pi-- around the bottom, when you can twist it easy try prying it up a little with a pinch bar while twisting. It will come. Walt

Use some of the 50-50 mix as well, this stuff really works.

I'd take the idler gear out to make cleaning easier. There's a tapped hole in the stub shaft it rotates on. Attach a slide hammer to the pin and knock it out. Very simple. JMHO. Good luck.

I believe Ron's refering to a 50/50 mix of automatic transmission fluid and acetone. Seems to be the hot set-up for freeing up frozen parts.

Aw, man, is that all you were talking about? I was hoping the formula somehow involved wild animal urine as the secret ingredient....What a disappointment.

Don't forget to remove the oil galley plug in the front behind the timing gear. It's a good idea to use a long narrow brush (ie rifle barrel brush) to clean out the tube. DO NOT FORGET to replace the plug on the rebuild.

The only way to properly clean this passage is to remove the fuel pump pushrod bushing so you can get a clear shot through the tube.
