If you can wait a few months the Big 3 swap meet in San Diego is Feb 22-24.

Since you don't think you can save it, now is the perfect time to give it a try. If you fail you won't be disappointed and maybe you will surprise yourself.

ya, I certainly plan to do that. It's so messed up though that I think all I could do is make a servicable bridge and it wouldnt look original.. knowing me it'd end up looking like some aviation emblem

A good A&P should be able to fabricate one from scratch out of the scrap bin.

Is it the tubular style bar or the stamped steel type which had license mounts but tended to break?

Your avitar is an optical illusion. One time, when you look at it, the plane is going away from you, at a 45* angle. Another time that you look at it, it is coming at you, from a 45* angle. Anybody else see that ?

Yep, now that you mentioned it I can see it.
I'll bet after a few drinks it becomes a biplane!

The first one was going away. The second one was coming back. I had to duck!

I don't know what you guys are using , I've looked at it with left eye closed, right eye closed, standing up, sitting down, looking from the left, looking from the right and it always looks like the tail is in the back except when I take my glasses off then the plane disappears.

You guys are nuts!

My avatar is my actual plane, a pic taken from the backseat of a kit plane that I passed at about 5500 ft over North San Diego County. I never noticed the illusion until you mentioned it Mike.. thanks! now that's all I'll even see when I look at it

Tubular.. sorta looks like it might be tapered very slightly.

Funny thing, every time I do that it flys away....

That kind of lays a challenge out for me though... maybe I'll make custom bar out of this wrecked one that has some aviation theme.. like a propeller that turns in the wind or something...

If it was taken by a plane he just passed...then it is going away from you, but if it was taken before he passed, then???? Oh well...never mind.
