Strange filler cap on Master Cylinder
Picked up a new master cylinder for my 49 F-1. The filler cap isn't anything like the old one. Look familiar? Do I just have the wrong one?

Re: Strange filler cap on Master Cylinder
looks like some one added a fill plug on top of the fill plug--possible to help in bleeding the brakes? one on left is like the old original ones not the plastic one

Re: Strange filler cap on Master Cylinder
I think that plug is removed for pressure bleeding.

The master cylinder is used on certain model forklifts --and has a cap with a remote fill fiting -- tube from an upper reservor down to master cylinder cap. My understanding. Gene Tulsa |

Re: Strange filler cap on Master Cylinder
Hmmm, that's just strange. Maybe I can just take that cap off and use the old one?

Very glad you asked this question, as I too bought a MastCyl at Napa and I have the same cap ! The cap on old original was exactly the same as yours in second picture. I left it alone and didn't use the old cap and all is well. It would be interesting to find out what that is all about. Thx...... Mike |

Re: Strange filler cap on Master Cylinder
I have a remote fill cap with a piece of tubing attached. I will never use it and got it with some other stuff. kx

Re: Strange filler cap on Master Cylinder
The last three (different Fords) master cylinders that I have bought are made in this fashion. The first one the cap was so tight That we had to really struggle( strong arm) to get the cap to unscrew. Wagner box, but made overseas thank you! Tom Byrd

Re: Strange filler cap on Master Cylinder
I found this on Mac's website. Listed as "Wagner Brake". Is it just a different manufacturer?

Re: Strange filler cap on Master Cylinder
Just tried to remove the entire cap... wow-wee it's on there tight! The little hex shaped bolt/plug comes right out. I added some fluid through the small opening and got it pumping. Sure doesn't seem to hold much brake fluid however...

Re: Strange filler cap on Master Cylinder
I found from experience that those old caps will twist off if they have been stuck for years. I needed a new master cylinder anyway.

Re: Strange filler cap on Master Cylinder
It may be wrong. but was handy. I cut down a cheap funnel and threaded it in the center plug hole. Made bleeding the brakes a lot easier.
