serial number on a 46
Everytime someone is looking for the serial number they are told to look on the left side of the frame just before the front crossmember and they generally find it. I have scrubbed mine down to the bare metal and can see nothing there. Is there a second place they may have used? This is just more of a curiosity thing than real need.

Re: serial number on a 46
I know for other years, the number is on three places on the frame. The front is the easiest to get to.

Re: serial number on a 46
John, The number could be on the frame rail anywhere from the cowl to the radiator, depending on where it was built, who was doing the stamping and what time of day it was... Like so many other Ford anomalies, there really is no right answer. Our '47 rag top has the vin # on the left front frame rail just as you described. I had a '46 TuDor that had the vin # closer to the steering box on the frame rail.

Mine is on the top of the frame just in front of where the shock mount
would bolt on. |

Re: serial number on a 46
lol , depending on whether or not the number stamper was pissed or not you can find it any where stated, if its not where its supposed to be look right at the cowl it maybe just under the cowl, if so you will have to lift the body to see it

Re: serial number on a 46
Vic nailed it.
I have a 42' that is stamped just to the left of where you have cleaned off. It curves around the front cross member on the frame. |

Re: serial number on a 46- Tinker got it
Tinker got it! Found my VIN right where the front crossmember is riveted to the frame (and it matches the title!). Looks the guy stamping it used the edge of the crossmember to guide his stamps so a nice neat job. Thanks to all that offered help. John
