Re: Open Cab Body Wood..1928 - 1929
I posted a similar thread a few weeks ago, and received several comments to the effect that since hucksters were not an official Ford product, that (almost) anything goes. What I wanted was something official or at least professional to start with. I just bought plans for a huckster from Wagon Works. I scoped out three hucksters at the MAFCA tour in NH , and they were all WW designs with personal variations in each one. The WW plans come with a disclaimer that they are from an unrestored original body, and that modifications are possible. I don't plan to build exactly to WW design, but it has all the necessary details and explanations for me to understand where I can deviate, and where I shouldn't.

Most fabricators of body wood make it a bit on the large side to allow for adjustment and fit since individual bodies may be slightly different. Most require some extra fitting to get them where they need to be and for the fitting of the top materials to bows and such. Maybe an owner of a roadster pickup body can add more if this is what you are referring to. Hucksters are in a whole different category since most use a coupe type front pillar so I can't help much there.

No experience with any of them but a little information... Classic Wood website - https://www.classicwoodproductsllc.com/ Wagon Works used to be Hudson Wagon Works - they made T and A huckster bodies. Many moons ago, I did buy plans from them for putting a Pinto powertrain in a Model A - think I still have them somewhere but I never got around to committing that particular heresy. Anyway, when the business changed hands, the Hudson was dropped and I believe they just sold plans. When I google them, I get "permanently closed." But Russell Reay said he just bought plans so I dunno. |

I purchased those plans years ago and started a Huckster using a '31 frame and sheet metal. I found some differences between the DVD and paper plans. Nothing serious, but you need to pay attention. Too, the quality of the DVD wasn't exactly top notch. Ended up selling it to a father and his son as a project.
