Default 39 pickup speedo - rubber encased or not?

I see some encased, some not. Have not seen grommet for the non-encased - maybe grommet built into rubber encased ones?

A while back, Kube put up a nice photo of encased one in 40 ford.

Thanks, Gordon

Gordon, Authentically they were encased. There were folks expressing a theory of only radio equipped cars having an encased cable. Not so... ALL utilized the same encased cable.
I can't speak for trucks... only passenger cars.

Gordon after digging out my old parts that I use for examples, my cable in very poor condition looks to be rubber encased.

It could be packed with dirt as well. Scott

Thanks guys. Glad you knew I meant "speedo cable" not just "speedo".

Mac's lists 3 different ones, all include "32-47 PU/commercial". One is vinyl sheathed.

I'll figure out the length when I don't have to wade thru snow to the shop!

I currently have the cable out of my '42 PU, if you'd like me to measure for you?

Gordon,Are you restoring this truck? If so, that vinyl won't hold up to a judge's scrutiny.

Thanks again folks,

It's not a "complete restoration" just a faithful rejuvination I guess I 'd call it.

Every bolt/clamp/piece has been removed, stripped/blasted or whatever, but I'm not good enuf to call it a "restoration". The 8BA I put in it wouldn't help on that note either.

I just wanted to know if the metal "tube" needs protection and if an incased (encased?) cable would also fill the grommet hole.

I may just make a grommet for what I think is a NOS metal one I bought years ago.

Don't bother to measure, but I appreciate the offer. I've got the speedometer and tranny/torque tube in the truck - just have to stretch the cable I have in place and see if I need a longer or shorter one.

This question came from me looking at photos to see where to put it!

Seems like 70" and change is normal, but I've seen 60" ones in the dream books.

As always, sure appreciate you guys sharing the knowledge.

H'mmmm - are there gals on here to? I may be getting in trouble....

Gordon
