Default I Need an education

I need to get educated about my engine. Here is what I think I know:

99T 100 Hp Ford commercial truck (COE) 1939 to early 1941
3 mounting hole eggshell/divers helmet distributor 1938 to 1946
Water outlet on center of head 1938 to 1948
Single wide belt pulleys 1938 to 1941
Press on timing gear to camshaft (I think) 1938 to 1939
24 stud 1938 to 1948
2 freeze plugs each side of oil pan 1938 to 1940
No raised intake manifold deck surface 1938 to 1940 (only 1941 and 1942)
Cylinder water jacket openings-triangle, trapezoid, trapezoid 1939 to 1942
4 ring aluminum dome pistons
No valve seat inserts 1938 to 1946
1939 to 1940 85hp, 1941 to 1942 90hp crank length 26.03, main journal 2.49, rod journal 1.99
Cylinder bore 3.181
1939 Truck was badged as a 95hp type 81 or 87 COE?
What should I know so I can have a reasonable conversation with an engine rebuilder.
thanks for any guidance
Steven

Some of the years you show for these items/features are not correct. Here is a previous post on engine identification that might help you ...

https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showth...identification

Also, Mac Van Pelts website would help educate you on Flathead engines...

It's hard to sift out what you are unsure about from the list of statements you have made.

What do you think your motor is, and what are it's identifying characteristics?

Mart.

Round center deck coolant passage is 95 hp 239. Trapezoidal center port is 85 hp 221.

Sounds like a 1938 thru 1940 221 85 Hp engine block. It may have been bored to 3 3/16" or the tin can sleeves removed if it had them.
