Default 40 ford fedender welting installation

What is the correct installation of fender welting on 40 ford deluxe.
Specifically the top and bottom ends as the new Fords came of the assembly line?

Front fenders : the top was merely folded over to offer a somewhat "finished" appearance. The lower edge was simply cut off with little care as to how close or how far away (the cut was) from the bottom edge of the fender.
Rear fenders: Little care was taken at either the front or rear ends of the welt when it was cut off in regard to how close (or not close) it was to the end of the fender.

Not that I am aware of. However, there are numerous factory photographs that depict what I had conveyed to you earlier.

When I install welting I glue it in place either on the body or fender and at the bottom I fold it over and attach it down with the smallest pop rivet I can find. Usually there isn't a bolt at the very end and the welting can work loose after the bolt and hang down

What about those staples that holds the welting to the fenders? Seems that the factory had no time to wrestle the welt into place as we are left to do. Probably no modern way to do those hard round staples. I regret pulling them out. Good Luck: Fred A

On my '41 most of the welting around the grill area was stapled to the metal

I know it isn't "factory" but it looks better when you cut a "V" in the welting where the fender ends and fold it back upon itself. That gives you a nice round radius at the corner.
