Default Flathead & transmission won't sit back far enough?

First off, I'm totally new to these early Ford's and learning as I go. But I am finally fitting the motor and transmission into the frame, but they don't seem to sit back far enough to center on the mounts. Because it's sitting so far forward, it's also pushing the oil pan into the front cross member. With the use of ratchet straps on each side of the motor, I can pull it back into the torque tube to get the bolts in, but this just can't be how it's done. Frame is a 37 and the trans is a 39 case. Do I need a different transmission mount possibly?

I think that is the early mount for 35 and 36. I think the 37 mount is different?

I just double checked and the 37 mount is different. Part number 78-7085, Van Pelt Sales has a photo of it.
Apparently ford changed the frame mounting location? Or maybe your rear axel is moved forward?

check number on back of trans should be 78-7006 37 up trans case if it says so, . probably correct trans box with wrong mount, you do not give your location if you were close to me I would give you the correct mount, I am in upstate SC

You have a 35-36 mount on the transmission and a 37-40 mount on the frame. You need to change the rear mount on the transmission.

Not only do you have an incorrect rear mount, but it is also shot. The rubber is quite obviously rotten.

I looked at one of my 35-36 frames and the transmission mount on the frame is different then the 37 frame. I learned something new about old Fords again!

That '35 - '36 stamped steel mount on the trans is built so that it can be flipped and mounted in either of two positions on the trans, as a way of making-up the difference for the'33 & '34 4-cylinder engine blocks being 1-1/2" longer than a V8 block. Ya gotta see it to understand it. '33 & '34 V8s and 4-cylinder cars have different length drive shafts and torque tubes, and this was a unique way to make-up for the differences.
