Default Gas valve pencil filter loose

I got a new pencil filter screen from Mike's, the kind that sticks into the shutoff valve at the tank. I have an original valve (pretty certain) and it doesn't seat tight. I've read older posts where people had to "tin" them. Is this just putting some solder around it and sanding it round?

Yes, a thin coat of solder will usually do the trick. I've never had to sand it.

You can also just wrap a small amount of alluminum foil around it until you get a tight fit, that way it can be removed farely easily to be changed.

You can also slightly squeeze the bottom sleeve to make it slightly oval, until it fits snugly.

Thanks for the ideas. I put a coat of solder on it. I had to file it a bit since it wasn't perfectly round. I'm no expert solderer (if that's a word). It fits nice a snug now.
