Default Scuff plates

Just finished the floor and put on the scuff plate, looks good but the door don't have enough room to close, only goes on first latch. Door closes good without the scuff plate. Anyone else had this problem? Thanks in advance.

They appear to be the Dennis Carpenter reproductions, which I used on a phaeton without door closure issues.

I do have the rubber seal on the bottom of the door, which seemed thick when I insalled it, and some thin foam built into my door panels. It is probably just a combination of errors. Thanks for your thoughts. Paul

Show a picture of the door upholstery in thew area of the door jamb and rocker. Most closure issues are from too much upholstery in that area.

....or floors welded in without first fitting ALL the adjoining parts.

Thanks Dick, I think that is the issue, between upolstery and the new rubber seal. The floor has not been replaced so that is not the problem. Thanks

I have found the rubber on both the 39 and 40 seals is too rigid and not formed quite as the originals. It takes time to get them (39 & 40) to relax enough for the door to close properly. I have gotton in the habit to acquire these very early in a restoration process, affix them to a board in the "relaxed" position I want them to be in when I eventually install them. That system has helped a lot. I also apply heat to them when I think of it.

Looking at your pictures, it doesn’t look as though your scuff plates are seated all the way down, it seems that part of the painted rocker panel is showing below the scuff plate.

Are you using them to hold down the carpet making them sit higher and interfering with the door panel?

Just a thought, Jim

If there down all the way the mounting holes will line up, if that is ok then the door panels are causing the problem. I'm using repo's and holding an edge of carpet and had no problems.

I've just installed the scuffs with the rubber seal on my 48. Its a tight fit without the door panel. I will ensure the bloke who is going to do my uphosltry doesn't overdo the padding on them.
