33/34 body fixing query.
I have a Roy Nacewicz 33/34 body mounting kit.
The fastenings supplied for the wheelhouse to frame kickup (2 per side) do not appear to be correct. Supplied are 5/16" - 7/8" carriage bolts where the heads are supposed to face outwards. Looking at original vehicles that I have seen they all have hex bolts with large 1 1/2" washers on the outside which fit into slight recesses. If the washer system is correct? the finish would be cadmium? Thanks Graham |

From all the originals I've seen and taken apart, Roy's carriage bolts are correct, with the head on the outside. That included a Canadian '33 with the rest being of U.S. manufacture.

Re: 33/34 body fixing query.
Mine is of U.S. origin.
Of several original vehicles I have seen here in NZ they all have bolts and washers. There has been no repair work done on the inner wheelhouse areas. Surely if carriage bolts were used in this location there would be a square hole for the shoulder to fit into so the nut could be tightened. My one has round holes, that is why I am asking. Anyone have a photo they could post? |

I know it sounds a bit odd, but that's what they used, just like through the rear of the scuff plate at the B pillar (at least on the fifteen I've owned over the years).
