Default Dipstick Differences

Are 8BA and 8RT dipsticks interchangable? Thanks in advance.

Each one of them is marked above the full mark, too what engine they go to. An 8BA or 8RT is stamped into them, so i would say they are not interchangeable......Ed

Thanks, Ed. I'm building an 8BA but using a truck(8RT) oil pan. Am trying to determine if I need a different dipstick. Your input is appreciated. Henry

I have boith dipsticks and measured them side by side. The 8BA stick is 7/8" longer than the 8RT one, but more importantly, the full mark is about 1 1/8" LOWER. If you added oil by the full mark on the 8BA stick, you would be way below what you need in the 8RT pan. You should either find an 8RT dipstick to go with the pan, or find a friend with one and cut off and re-mark your 8BA stick to match.

Another way is to mark your dipstick after you have put in the proper amount of oil for your particular engine.
