I replaced my 7-tooth
After over fifty years of struggling with my 7-tooth steering box on my 29 sedan, I just installed my newly rebuilt late 29 2-tooth. What a difference! I had about 30 degrees of play in the 7-tooth, and the splined steering wheel wouldn't tighten down.
But now! Wowza! Kudos to Les Andrews for his instructions on the rebuild; following the book it went real easy. For those of you contemplating putting some modern steering unit in, I'm here to say keep it stock, rebuild what you've got, and you'll be very pleased! Altogether I had about 10 hours in the whole project, start to finish. However, I didn't discover till too late that I could have bought a rebuilt Gemmer box from a number of suppliers for about $100 less than what it cost me to do it myself. But, oh well; in a year I won't miss the money and I'll still have great steering on my A.

For the record, what are the sources for the rebuilt boxes?

Re: I replaced my 7-tooth
Snyder's and Bratton's, at least, both have them. About $425.

Re: I replaced my 7-tooth
I replaced the sector gear in my 28 7 tooth with one that wasn't badly worn in the center of the teeth. Made a big difference.
