Default Newbe Questions

1) My 29 Pick-up has a windshield that opens from the bottom (hinged at the top). Unfortunately, there is no mechanism to hold the windshield in the open position. Photos I have seen suggest that originally there was something on the side of the windshield that might have been for that purpose. Am I correct? Where can I find same? Any other suggestions? I live in Florida and need my air conditioning.

2) Does anyone make a reproduction tool kit?

As usual, thanks

Hi Contenderizer and welcome to the club. Yes there are two arms (one on each side) with screw nuts that will hold the windshield open. I think they are called swing arms but not sure. They are made aftermarket so you can go through any of the suppliers and get them.

The tool kit can be put together from the different pieces found at swap meets or antique stores. A kit is not 'reproduced' per se, I don't have one as I use modern tools instead that I keep in the car with me.

If some one has not removed the hardware, there should be a threaded stud on each side of the inside body to attach the swing arm; there should also be brackets on the inside of the windshield at approximately the same height as the studs that the other end of the swing arm attach too.

For the tool kits you just need to look around at garage sales and other local events.

They made millions of tool kits and everyone kept the tools. The key is to know how to identify the tools. Few are Ford script. The jacks are size specific. The company may have made the same design in many different sizes. So a jack that is 1/2" too short will not be the correct jack, no matter how many judging certifications the guy selling it tells you he has.

So look in the tool boxes at garage sales. Odds are real high you can find most of the tools in the $.25 range. Except some will try to get a a premium for the spark plug wrench cause they can be Ford script. Then you just remind them there are 4 million of these wrenches out there.

Now nice screw drivers and pliers I will pay as much as a dollar for them cause people will pay more for them. I will also pay more than a dollar for a nice tire pump, crank, and any jack.
