Default Got a question

Hi there, old lurker but new with the forums. I have a late '30 deluxe sedan delivery that I'm finishing up. Discovered two holes about 3 and 1/4" apart in the passenger kick plate below the Ford script zinc strip. (see photo, sorry about the glare). I have no idea what went there, and wondered if any of y'all might have a thought about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated (and one of whatever it was would be worth a lot to me).
Thanks!

No idea. Where in the State of Jefferson are you? You might look up Dick Mace and ask him. He knows a lot about Model A's.

Could have been a dealer tag, but those are usually on the firewall.

"The State of Jefferson" is located in Northern California. I see the sign each time I travel up I-5.

Actually, The "State of Jefferson" is northern California and southern Oregon. I was curious about what part of it the OP lived in.

Cheers

Paradise... State of Jefferson. You can google the history if interested. Kind of fascinating and still very much alive at least in our minds! Did I just high jack my own thread question?!

The pic is a bit small but they look like dealer/factory holes. So, wild guess is that something hung down under the door to either protect the splash apron or running board?

Glenn, Hadn't thought of the dealer tag, good idea! Hmmm...

28A, I will try to contact Dick and see what he says.

Also wondered if it might have been a fleet tag of some sort. It came out of L.A. with a panel sign that said "Sloan's Dry Cleaning, Pressing... and Shoe Repair". There are still about 6 stores in the L.A. area.

If you know the history of the vehicle, it could be a number tag for the company. My 29 has a tag attached denoting city number.

Thanks folks,

1930Art, hadn't thought of a cover, good idea. No idea what it wood be though.

Dennis, appreciate the idea love to see that city tag. You are right, I've often thought I should contact Sloan's and ask for any history they might have, if anyone is still around who remembers back in the day. Guess I need to find that old pen and writing paper and a stamp, too. Can't seem to find a way to contact the owners online.

The counter sunk hole area looks more factory, than something added latter. I have the same dated October Delivery mine doesn't have those holes. The raised area is puzzling .

Dennis, I think the history will tell the tale, you are so right. Guess I need to go to SoCal and do some laundry!

Don, my friend, I appreciate your head scratching here and in the P.M.s on this mystery.

Gary, I had the money, but my taxman got it today, there goes the mystery plate AND my barn/man cave... again! And the other thread was short but sweet... got my answer.

Thanks again everyone for the input.
