Re: Townsedan body style poll
Our 1931 Briggs is a May production car with flat fire wall. The car has been in the family since 1933. I've had custody of the sedan since 1954 when my Grandfather passed it on to me for safe keeping.
We had an eightieth birthday party for the sedan at this year's IMAD. Now it's getting ready for Halloween! |

Re: Townsedan body style poll
For years now, I've never seen this posted or written about. When I stripped out my '31 160-B Town sedan (March build), I found the pictured logo stamped into only one of the two rear steel brackets that are next to the rear window wood. It is a large "B", with a small "M" in the top of the B, and a small "C" in the bottom of the "B", with an even smaller "O" inset in center of the "C". I'm sorry for the crummy photo's, I was in a hurry tonight here, but I took a larger picture of the body location to give you an idea where the heck it is located. Can anyone else tell me if this is common-place? I can't seem to find another like it anywhere this body. Edited, 1/17/12; I did find this logo stamped in sheet metal bracket that goes in front door pillar areas. I totally agree, ColombiA, you're right, "Briggs" must have made this.

Re: Townsedan body style poll
I have a indented-firewall 160B, but I have not been able to identify its maker. I looked everywhere, but could not find any markings specific to any body manufacturer. It has about a 50/50 mix of D and caged nuts, no body tag (and no sign that one was ever installed), and no assembly plant code stamped anywhere.

Re: Townsedan body style poll
I thought that I would bring this back as it looks like some new TS have been brought back to life.

Re: Townsedan body style poll
mass A man..I really think that the logo on your 160B means Briggs Man.Co.To me it makes the most sense that the company name start with the largest letter. I believe my 160B is a Murray,if the caged nuts behind the dash rail are any indication. No body tag-Canadian car, flat firewall.

Re: Townsedan body style poll
My 160B has indented firewall, body by Briggs. It has the D shaped nuts all over. The engine is a restamped diamond block with 4705147 on it. If it was restamped correctly I believe it was a June 31 engine originally. Current block is dated 1936. Speedo is dated April 31 and has the Tan Broadcloth? interior that I don't believe started until the end of May 31. Have not been able to find any numbers stamped on the body. Still looking.
It is -5 degrees here right now and I had it out for a spin tonight. I think I will leave it home tomorrow. Pete |

Re: Townsedan body style poll
1931, flat firewall, s/w. If it doesn't have a Briggs body tag I assume it's a Murray? Ford did not make any s/w sedans. According to The Model A Ford as Henry Built it, only the 160B was called a Town Sedan.
My s/w is a survivor with orig. paint, interior and believe it or not a perfect original top. My wife wants me to restore it but it isn't going to happen. I tell her anyone can own a restored car, but she doesn't get it. |

Re: Townsedan body style poll
I have a 160B which was assembled in Canada. It is a Murry according to several Canadian "experts" since is has flat bottom drip mouldings. Briggs have round bottom drip mouldings. BTW ... it is a non-indented firewall and has all D-nuts.

Does anyone have documentation of Which SW Sedans had "D" nuts and which had "Caged"nuts ? Some times folklore gets in the way of fact???
