Default Straight dual pipes

To all who suggested that dual straights wouldn't be too loud--Thanks! They're on and sound great! There's nothing that sounds quiet like it does. I was a little skeptical about installing them but after driving along a farm fence of boards and listening to the reflected noise, I couldn't believe how good that flathead sound was! Thanks again!!(it doesn't hurt that I'm old and can't hear well that makes it sound so good!)

My pickup has headers with two straight pieces of conduit. Has a sound like nothing else (cept maybe another flathead). You need to stand along side the road and have somebody drive it past.
Not load at all. Cops don't ever bother me.

i run fenton headers on my 35 pickup with dual 2" pipes straight back. i do have short glasspacks called bullets that are 3" through. the larger glasspack gave it a real deep tone.definetly sounds like a flatty!

If i remember right from my younger days, the 2" strait pipes are actualy quieter than the glass packs . The straight has a snap when you let off the accelerater and the glass packs rumbles. Marv

I've got stock headers and 2" pipe all the way back.No tips. I can hardly hear them in the car untill I drive by something that bounces the sound back at me. Cops don't seem bothered either. No CSB has a sound that compares!!

I would love to see the hp and trque curves with these different combinations. Straight pipes on a harley run like shit. Leans it out too much in the mid range and a cam makes it worse. Dyno tuned with baffles and added back pressure until the torque line was straight. The quieter exhausts actualy give the best dyno numbers. Straights are good at full rpm.

I have dumps that I remove the caps off once in awhile, and an old timer told me that I didn't want to do that for very long. It had something to do with the back pressure (or lack of) effecting the valves or something like that. Is that true, and if so, wouldn't the same effect happen with straight pipes?
