I run 4.11's and 7.50-16's on my 32 P/U with a T-5. I'm real happy with the combo.

Re: how many are running chevy T-5's behind our flatheads
The only trouble I have ever had with my t-5 is when I'm down shifting to second gear doesn't always go in smooth?

Re: how many are running chevy T-5's behind our flatheads
Oops. I attributed the wrong rod shop. I bought my conversion from Cornhusker. I'd do it again.

Re: how many are running chevy T-5's behind our flatheads
Hi Guys,
I like the sound of this conversion and think it would compliment my '40 Coupe. Sorry if this sounds dumb but how do you get on with the clutch operation? (I'm assuming hydraulic?)and what about speedometer operation? aren't the T5's electronic speedometer? Thanks in advance, Jim |

Sounds good. What would it take to put one in my 53 PU? It already has a 9" rear end.

Also, the early T-5's (pre-88 I think) had mechanical speedometer drives. Mine hooked up to my Ford speedometer no problem...and with my gear/tire combination was accurate within a mile or two. Neal |

Re: how many are running chevy T-5's behind our flatheads
I'd like to share a few tips on this conversion given hot rod jim's questions. I did the swap in my 40 in 2002 or so. It's been a long time. Anyway, I used the Cornhusker kit. After everything was in, the car chattered like an SOB. Pulled it all out and found the rivets on on the disc were ever so lightly rubbing my flywheel. I had the flywheel machined for more clearance at the disc hub. This cured the problem and opened up other disc choices. Also, I learned the hard way during a road trip through Va. with my wife that if the extension arm from the clutch pivot ball to the bell housing isn't perfectly parallel, the extension arm will work it's way off the clam shell bearings on the pivot ball. I put a "z" in my extension arm to get it parallel. Now this could have been do to my set up, motor mounts, trans mounts, etc. and may not occur in most swaps. I bring this up as things to watch for when doing the swap so others don't have the same experience. Once I cleared up these two problems, my T5 conversion has been trouble free. I use a stock Mercury 10" long style pressure plate with stock throw out bearing and linkage. Could not be more pleased with the set up. Dan

Re: how many are running chevy T-5's behind our flatheads
I had a GM T5 in the roadster that was sold last year. I took pictures, and Walt Dupont wrote a very well worded discription on how to make your own adaptor. Ours were done before the current adaptors were on the market. Does Ryan still have that stuff? It would be nice to see that information again, it still is good informaion.

Re: how many are running chevy T-5's behind our flatheads
Thanks Guys for all the help and advice, that looks like the way forward for me.
One problem I can see ahead for me is my car is right hand drive, it was built in Canada and exported new to South Africa ending up in the UK approx 1990 (they were never sold here, we were a little busy in Europe at the time) so clutch release arm is going to be on the opposite side to the Chevy. Thanks again, Jim |

I know of a 36 woody RHD, with a T-5. I think he used a hydraulic clutch, but if you could find a RHD truck bell housing it would be even easier because you would use the stock peddle assembly, it can be done. So I think you have more than one way to get a T-5 in your car. Good Luck |

Re: how many are running chevy T-5's behind our flatheads
Been running a T-5 in my 40 coupe with a real stemmy 276 for yr's with 3:50 gears. 60mph = 2000 rpm. All kinds of power. With a stock engine I'd use 3:78 gears. Walt
