Is my Model A buggy spring OK?
I guess I'm thinking this is to be expected for an 80 year old spring, but then again, I'm FNG.
This is what my rear spring leaves look like close up and off the car. Can our panel of experts tell me, do I just put it back on the car, and let the weight load it up and spread the leaves, or do I need to get this to a spring shop? Thanks for your input. |

They look shot to me. The leaves should rest one on top of another with only .015 gap the first 1/8".
Also take the spring and set it up as if it were in the car. Measure cener of eye to center of eye and it should reed between 30 5/8" to 30 13/16". From the top of the spring to the floor should read between 6 15/16" and 7 1/16".

Thanks. Are those measurements under load or freestanding? I think I'm in trouble either way, but I'd like to know for future.

Replacement springs not that expensive
Try Arizona Model A in Chandler http://arizonamodela.com/ Give Sammy a ring on 480 782 0266 - he may have something in stock. If not, he'll steer you right. Regards Juggs |

Thanks, Mike V, Juggler (Andrew, isn't it?), and popcorn-guy. As a newbie, I figure it's best to ask rather than assume. I'm thinking I'll donate the old spring leaves to the community college blacksmithing class.

Sorry, I probably shouldn't have done that. Sammy put me in contact with you last year. I was swapping some parts with another Ford Barner in California, and he was looking for some roadster doors.
