Lincoln transmission
I picked up this transmission and I'm not familiar with Lincoln transmissions. I'm hoping someone can tell me what year it is. It has a 26 tooth gear. Thanks

Re: Lincoln transmission
Where is the rest of it? Just kidding. The front is mostly a Zephyr with the rear modified to use a closed driveshaft. For some reason the overdrives are not tossed and show up if you know what they look like. With the overdrive they are 10" longer than a Ford V8. Typically the gears are harvested and the rest set aside or tossed. Parts of greater value are the gears and side cover. Good Luck: Fred A

Re: Lincoln transmission
It appears to be a 3 speed transmission with out the OD. The serial number of the vehicle is stamped on the bell housing of the trans just above the inspection hole. a 1948 would start with 8H- , a 1947 would start with 7H-, and a 1946 the number would start with just a plain H and a number around 151xxx

Re: Lincoln transmission
I'm not familiar with that big hole at the rear of the side cover. The zerk indicates that something must move in that hole frequently-enough to necessitate appropriate lubrication. What it is? DD

Re: Lincoln transmission
I'm with DD. What's the hole on the end for?

Re: Lincoln transmission
Thanks for the input. The case has no serial numbers stamped on it. I bought it from a family owned business that is shutting down after 85 years. I was told this transmission was rebuilt in the 50s and has been sitting on a shelf ever since. All the gears inside appear to be brand new. I've attached a picture of the inside.

Re: Lincoln transmission
Just an observation from the picture but I see a couple items that I'd check out before I ran that gearset. The rear oil baffle seems to be installed backwards....the curled lip should face forward. Also the second gear synchro ring appears worn enough to allow the ring to ride all the way up the taper on second gear. Maybe these are figments of imagination but I thinks I sees something..... Aside from that, the gear teeth that we can see sure look decent.
