New to the forum
Hello,
I'm brand new to this forum. Just sold my 1950 Buick and bought my dream vehicle, a 1930 Ford Model A pickup. I'm heading down to pick it up Friday night and complete the purchase. As a fist time Model A owner any tips, tricks or good advice would be greatly appreciated. Been poking around the forum a bit already checking things out but thought I'd post a hello. Attached are some pics of my new baby Scott |

this manual will tell you most of what you need to know to drive and maintain your A without hurting it, and it will answer many questions like how to use the spark advance, how to shift a crash box, etc. consider joining your local A club chapter. You'll find helpful friends, and support on tours, maintenance, repairs . they're wonderful cars and trucks. Have fun |

Re: New to the forum
Gosh, that's nice! I want a truck too. Want to sell it?
Here's a tip that helped me get started: I got all the vendor catalogs and read them over and over again til they were practically worn out. (Actually, I still do that.) Just knowing all the parts in a Model A is a great starting point. You'll have a good point of reference when reading posts on the barn. Good luck, and enjoy that truck!

Re: New to the forum
I second Pat's suggestion of joining a local Model A club chapter. They always are a great bunch of guys that are quite helpful and they almost always really enjoy eating! I enjoy the touring with a group of A's. Many clubs also include the ladies. Gar Williams

I like your new baby. Don't forget to burp him regularly!! Welcome to the forum. You will find a treasure trove of information here and solutions (usually more than one) on just about every problem you may have. Your truck looks great and hopefully the problems will be few and far between.

Re: New to the forum
I second that...even though it looks like a 4 blade fan. Nevertheless, they are old too and they throw off blades too. The repro 2 blade aluminum fan looks "almost" original, has the best reputation and best price. The cost of losing a fan blade makes updating to a newer model well worth it.

Re: New to the forum
I am restoring a '28 Special Coupe and have been a member of the Fordbarn for a number of years but, still consider myself a novice. There is an endless supply of information on the Fordbarn site as well as opinions. The upgraded site software is great too, thanks to the hidden heros that provide this!
Fortunately, the vast majority of those that use the site are willing to share their expertise/experience. And, there are some real pros out there such as Tom Wesenber, among others, that unselfishly and tirelessly take time to answer questions ranging from the most basic to the most complex. Welcome... and please enjoy! Saltman |

Re: New to the forum
Very nice truck. You asked for advice, and here is mine, for what it is worth; drive it, get to know it and you will find it has a personality... Do not be in a hurry to change anything, unless you feel it is a safety issue. Some folks will tell you to change out this or that, but it has been around for 80+ years and Henry did know how to build a car. Learn the brake system; they love to go, but may have issues stopping, above all, have fun.

Re: New to the forum
We shared the same dream. I like the truck! As pat in Santa Cruz said, the "operators manual" is a must. You will be surprised on what it covers.

Re: New to the forum
Great looking truck. Getting all the supplier catalogs for reference was a great idea. Then remember most of doesn't fit properly so resist the urge to replace anything with new and shinny. I highly recommend getting out and put some miles on it.
