Default looking for info for 47 Merc. convert.

I am installing the wooden seat support in our 47 Merc. convertible.
There are all kinds of holes in the floor brackets for attachment
to parts that then attach to wooden support board. I have paper cups
full of brackets, parts, etc. I am looking for an exploded drawing of
these parts to figure out which ones to use. I am sure 46-48 Fords converts have common parts.
This car came with 8 plastic tubs of parts and no assembly instructions.
Go figure!
I appreciate any input, recommendations.

Thanks,

Bob- Hampshire, Illinois

I have a '47 Ford Convertible, there is no wood for seat supports in it, the front seat frame and adjustment tracks bolt to the floorboard and the rear seat top support is a steel rod that goes from side to side and the seat back has two legs (tabs) that get bolted to the rear (trunk) pan, for lack of a better description, and the rear seat cushion slides under the seat back and clips into place. Not sure why the Merc would be different but with Ford, no one knows…

Vic,
Our 47 has 2 boards, one bolts to side frame and to back, supports the folded top
boot area. One bolts between the frames that hold the cyclinders. Holes line up.
There is a recess for the hump. It is all oak with black metal edging along the hump area. That is all I know right now.
Thanks for the reply.

In our '47 Ford Convert. there is no top boot shelf so to speak, the fabric top well is attached to the body Tack strip and the cross bar that the seat back clips on to, that could be incorrect but that’s the way I’ve seen several ’47’s. Now that you mention it, the floor piece that spans the drive shaft "hump" might be wood with metal covering the top of it. It's been about ten years ago that I put new top struts in and my memory is not getting any better.

My 48 has the wood piece that goes from side to side and attaches to the body brace/cylinder mounts. Topped with metal. I also have the "shelf" in the back of the seat.

I attached brackets to the back of the seat back which grab onto the wood "shelf. Not sure this is way Ford did it, but seems like that is what should be to hold the top of the seatback.

The wood seat support fastens to some L brackets( with captive nuts), that are welded to the floor.I still have my old one, as well as the wood shelf the top lays on.I'm not aware of any exploded views in the body parts book tho. Send me some pictures & i'll try to see what they are & where they go. Been there & done that, many years ago on my 47 merc convert.
