Well folks, I'm not an English teacher, but there still seems to be some confusion about the meanings of CHANGE and UPGRADE.

Removing mechanical brakes and installing juice brakes is CHANGE.

Going from an outhouse to an indoor toilet is an UPGRADE!

Got to disagree. Substituting one similar part to another is change-ie one Model A motor for another is changing the motor. Putting a 302 in place of a Model A motor is an upgrade.

FWIT, I have been in some very nice outhouses-oak floors,heated, lights-and some pretty rancid bathrooms with indoor plumbing.

Going from a Vietnam style outhouse, with carved wooden seats with splinters, complete with 55 gallon drums cut off a foot high and having to remove the cans, pour diesel oil in and burn the "stuff" to ANY OTHER KIND of S house ... NOW THAT IS an upgrade !!!

That is why SOME folks in the theater laugh when watching the Platoon movie when the sunset comes up and there are columns of black smoke rising up through the beautiful sunset. Other folks in theater say "What are they laughing at?"

Then the scene cuts to some guys burning the "stuff" ... "What are those guys doing?"

The background music is Louis Armstrong singing "What a Wonderful World".

Unless of course you are an E5 or above and do not have to burn the "stuff".

It is all a matter of how you look at it!!!

Any change is "change".... if it has a positive out-come, then it could be considered an "upgrade".

In terms of antique cars, if a change improves the driveability / safety / enjoyability of the vehicle, without irreversibly altering the vehicle, that would be an upgrade, in my humble opinion.

One of my other antiques is a '41 De Soto sedan. It has a stump-puller 4.11 rear, and is screaming at 60 MPH. Over the years, I have acquired an overdrive transmission from a 1940 De Soto, and all the controls to go with, and plan to install it in my car for better highway driveability. Everything will be a "bolt-in" proceedure, the original parts will be retained, and if, down the road, myself or a subsequent owner wants to put it back to factory stock condition, it will be possible to do so.
This qualifies as an "upgrade" in my mind.

Dropping a 302 or SBC into a Model A is more along the lines of "desecration" in my mind; perhaps tolerable if the car itself is not irrevocably modified....

Your results may vary...

What you do to your car improves the appearance, the value, the safety, the performance, the reliability and is an upgrade. What I do to my car destroys the very character of the Model A and is an unneeded, unpopular and unamerican change!
