Default New style oil seal require a jiffy sleeve?

This may have already been covered but I didn't find it on a search. I am installing the new style solid rubber front oil seal on 39 59A motor rebuild. The mating surface on the crank pulley has a "spiral" machined in the surface which apparently is designed to push oil towards the pan. Is that a problem? Should there be a smooth surfaced sleeve on the crank pulley?

Most of the chevron type seal kits have the part or instructions that recommend a replacement part for the worm groove elimination. Speedy sleeves are available in all sorts of lengths & diameters to repair shafts but I would think the kit should instruct you on what is recommended. If there were no instructions, I would be leery about buying the kit.
