New Project: 1938 Ford Pickup & New to Ford Barn!
Hello, Here is my newest girl, a 1938 pickup... who my wife is actually excited about! I found her on a bulletin board at the local feed store. Come to find out, this project was started by a man named Bob, who earlier, just happened to stop by my house because he saw a '48 coupe in my yard. He had met my wife and offered to buy my very rough '48 coupe, which she told him no, that it is a project that I was going to put together for my father. Not long after that, sadly, Bob passed away. It was his widowed wife that put the ad in the feed store to sell her. Bob never even got to drive her. Now my wife & I are taking over this project. Many things I would have done differently, but what the heck, she's going to be a driver. We're going to call this project "in memory of Bob" with the meaning of "in memory of all the guys that didn't get to finish that last project".
Because of her, we found Ford Barn and really enjoy reading everything. We have also already found many parts for her thru this site. A big thanks to the gentlemen who have helped us! These pictures are the way we bought her. I'll post pictures as we move along. (looking for a big Ford steering wheel, among other things) Last edited by Garrett; 04-07-2011 at 10:37 AM. |

Cool truck. I picked up a '39 a while back in a little rougher shape. It just got bumped to 3rd on my list of car projects... I just hope to get it on the road as is... this decade!

Hey guys, thanks for your interest and all the info!
Yes, I'll check out that social group. Yes, I may be interested in the steering wheel. OK... ... the question that I'm dreading to answer... and I'm embarrassed to say... she's a morphodite. Bob, (the dead guy) is the one that put a SBC in her. Please do not throw me off Ford Barn. I'm enjoying this site immensely! P.S. I do have other ammo to stay on this site. (We'll talk about that later) |

I'd do whatever i could not to run the Ch---. Their are plenty of 38-39s out there that you can get cores or running engines and all the correct parts for that truck. Thats the fun part, hunting! Good luck! Ken

nice truck, keep looking on the feed store bulletin board, you may find others. If chev was done the easy way it can go back to flathead, but if the whole drive line was changed leave it that way, but drive it and have a good time

leave the hood closed dont say the word chev to any one that is near your truck get it on the road and enjoy it its better on the road with that motor than rusting in a field with a flathead in it in my opinion

Re: New Project: 1938 Ford Pickup & New to Ford Barn!
Here's the scoop... straight from the horses mouth... The drivetrain is already complete. However, my father has located a flathead & transmission from a friend in PA, but a bit far from FL. Next trip up there, I'll get it. In the meantime, I'll just get this one running (need to find headers that will fit...any ideas?) and drive it!
