I am not aware of a direct replacement high speed ring and pinion for the early Dana 44 alxe in your F-1. I think you can use a modern 3.54 ring and pinion if you also install a later carrier but swap in your differential side gears. It gets complicated.

You can also look for a 48-50 Dana 41 from an F-1. High speed gears for that axle are being made. The topic was discussed in some detail over on the Ford Truck Enthusiast website recently: http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/14...nd-pinion.html

If you don't have luck finding gear replacements, you might consider swapping in a 66-77 Bronco rear axle. 350:1 gears were very common, the axle is narrow like your truck and it would retain your original bolt pattern 5 on 5½. Save your original in case you decide to go back to original.

If you want to swap the entire rear axle the 57 to 72 F-100 9 inch is as close to bolt in as it gets. It looks like a 9 inch under your stock truck though...

A better option in my opinion is to get the 3.54 ratio gear set from a 51 Mercury, part number 1M 4209-E. This should bolt right into your axle. This website has a listing for one: http://www.vapinc.com/ringandpinions/main.html

Not a bad price either, good link 38 coupe, I wish they had more gears for the cars. I will save the link however.

Carriers and ring & pinion sets are available but the carrier set up has to match the axle spline count. The Ford F1 & Mercury that used Dana 44 rear axles had the 19 spline that were 29 5/8" long. Most of the later ones were 30 spline.

Check this site: http://www.ringpinion.com/

Randy should be able to tell you if there is a combo that will work.

Due to the need for a carrier to match the diameter of the ring, changing ratios can be expensive. If you are lucky enough to find an old 51 ford station wagon or a 51 Merc with Ford/Merc-O-Matic transmission, then you can get a Dana 44 with a taller gear ratio. Standard ratio for manual transmissions was generally 3.92:1.
