Making new rubber parts??
Ok so I thought that some of the guys here would have some input on how to re-create rubber parts not being reproduced. I have several parts that I can not locate but I have the originals in hand,(dry rotted but complete). For instance the rubber bumper bracket grommets for the big trucks 40-41.
Any thoughts on making a set? |

Re: Making new rubber parts??
I have used blocks of candle wax carved for mould and windshield glass glue, and I have replaced missing rubber with "the right stuff" gasket maker ---thick things take a long time to cure through, not good for something you want done the next hour

Re: Making new rubber parts??
There is a product called Sugru that may work. I bought some a year or so back but never got around to trying it out. There are a few tutorials on molding on their website:

Re: Making new rubber parts??
There are some pourable, room temperature cure rubber kits for industrial applications. Maybe someone like McMaster-Carr has it.

Re: Making new rubber parts??
Firstrider on the ford truck forum makes the rubber boots for the 51-52 magic air heaters. He might be a good contact as to what works and what doesn't.
