Haven't seen one I'd drive or have appreciation for. Now a good period jalopy I can appreciate. To each their own. Hey jacked up nova's were the sh!t once too. Sometimes you just sell to who is buying or watch it rust. You can do that also... "watch it rust" It is yours! |

Re: Anybody holding on a project afraid of it going to rat rodders?
The truck is neither pristine (your comment) nor a classic, two criteria that might dictate who you want to sell it to. How do you know some one will not turn it into a nicely finished street rod. There are worse things than that. Give some one one else the chance to do something nice with it.
Parting it out probably will mean that something of it will go for scrap and since you don't have shelter for it parts will rust away

"jacked up nova's.... " haha that made me laugh. I suppose back in the 50's there was somebody not wanting their old '32 Coupe to fall into the hands of those punk kid hot rodders. |

Re: Anybody holding on a project afraid of it going to rat rodders?
Ya....here's the story- my Dad had a '37 pick up back in the day. He sold it years ago but it was the first vehicle he owned. I grabbed this one knowing he would be thrilled to see another one. He passed two years later. I got as far as tearing it down. It was never to be a father son thing but I lost the drive to keep on it. It was in a machinery pole shed until last fall when my brother wanted the space so now it sits outside. I've dad's '65 GMC anyways and a '40 ford project in progress so this '37 might as well go. It was a bigger deal to me than for Dad but still hard to let it go and I just want to find the right home. |

Re: Anybody holding on a project afraid of it going to rat rodders?
I like stock but, when I was looking for parts I bought a lot of good sheet metal from a kid building a rat rod. In my opinion he ruined a really nice pickup and probably never finished it as I've not seen it on the street but, I did get some parts I needed.

If I was to build "any" kind of hot rod.. it would be in the flavor of the late 40's early 50's style.. flathead ford or other detroit car/truck.. Just the way they did it back then... Tradition runs through my veins!

Re: Anybody holding on a project afraid of it going to rat rodders?
IMO there's a difference between an obvious rat rod where the original car is almost unrecognizable and a traditional hot rod built to the late 40's, early 50's style where most changes can be reversed...

Re: Anybody holding on a project afraid of it going to rat rodders?
Not looking to stir the pot but many hotrodders or ratrodders buy parts body and or cars and save them from scrapers. I just learned from a buddy tonight a 1919 Indian motorcycle was scrapped by the neighbors wife . It was in the garage for over 40 years and was junk in her eyes when her husband passed. When it's time to let it go be happy that the new owner well use it and enjoy it. I am sure many of us on the ford barn are or we're hotrodders

Re: Anybody holding on a project afraid of it going to rat rodders?
Around here, the rat rodders usually buy bodies that are too far gone for most people, graft it onto some other chassis, weld skulls and circular saw blades on it, basically make it as extreme in every way possible. Most don't have the means to buy a decent project. I'm pretty sure no rat rodder would be interested in paying the price any of my unfinished projects would command.

Re: Anybody holding on a project afraid of it going to rat rodders?
My son is doing a 32 Tudor and it looks great NOW. As I said to him when he picked it up from the Blasters I would have left it t the scrap yard. Today after a long time in the body repair shop it looks great! It is on its original chassis as a roller. The L.B. engine is ready to go in behind it a rebuilt transmission and stock rear end. It CAN be done with the right people working on it. ! Kerk

You said it! Why should you care. Just decide what is more important to you. Money or Truck.
