Default 34 BB seat rebuild

I'm working on rebuilding seats for my 34 bb and I have the springs. Backrest and driver I can figure out. Gas tank cap is under passenger side. Do I make the bottom piece with hinges so it tips toward the dash for access? Thanks John

No hinges were used originally. The back of the bottom cushion is a snug fit at the bottom of the back cushion and between that and the way the wood frame of the bottom cushion fits over the raised area on top of the gas tank, the bottom cushion stays put. Your remove it completely to access the gas tank filler opening.

You have to completly remove the seat cushion to fill with gas? And the cushion stays in place? I'm just kind of surprised. Still learning.

Dave,

Is that set up the same as the 32 wagon/pickup?

If so I have a set of seats sjselk could look at. Or would he be able to get them from Roy?

Keep V-8ing and 4-banging!

jerseyboy,

Yes, the seat bottom cushions are the same as those on '32 pickups and station wagons (and all '32-'34 big trucks with a 17 gallon fuel tank).

Sjselk,

You will be surprised at how snug the fit of the bottom cushion will be (and was originally). The bottom row of springs in the seat back cushion is recessed to accommodate the back of the seat bottom cushions to such an extent that you can only lift up the bottom cushions from the front edge.

Thank you Dave, I may drive up and look at jersyboys before I continue. I think LB only has 1 piece bench seat kit unless 32 PU had a seat tank.

'32 pickups (both open and closed cab), station wagons, drive-away chassis, and big trucks all had the same in-cab fuel tank (as in your '34 truck) on which the seat bottom cushions were mounted. '32 panel deliveries also have in-cab fuel tanks, but the seating configuration in those bodies was unique.

Post some picts when you finish. I need some inspiration for mine, especially to tackle the cab and interior this winter - if I can get mine off and in the garage.

My BB dump has a couple mid 60's low back Mustang buckets in it. I have two bench springs that also came with the truck (probably from a pickup)I think I threw the only bottom half spring set I had away not knowing they had split bottom seats. It reeked like mice and was stinking up the garage.

My "34" BB Dump has a LB interior. It came from LB with a two piece bench seat bottom. I bought it from them as a "34" interior
