give it gas, then it lurches! '52 Ford F-1
Here is my set up... Just finished with the restoration on a 1952 Ford F-1 with the stock 239 ci V8 flathead. It has a professionally rebuilt Holley carb (7RT) and a new repro fuel pump and all new gas lines. Truck ran like a top for about 3 months.
Last week the fuel pump died. Just installed a new rebuilt pump made by our very own Ken CT. Nice job from Ken. I installed it yesterday. Truck started up great. Ken's pump works fine. I now have a new issue. When taking off from first, when I give it the initial gas, it stalls out, lurches forward a bit, then catches itself and takes off. If running higher than idle, giving it more gas and it runs fine, just like before. This initial gas/lurch/accelerate issue is a new one on me. I am perplexed and looking for some suggestions on items to check so I can begin a systematic check out to solve. Any input welcome, Thanks. Fred |

Make sure the accelerator pump seems to work ok, then I would check to see if you have crud in the carb. I took the top off mine a couple of weeks ago,(was having acceleration problems, big time) it had a white, milky, crud in it. I cleaned it out, pull the jets and cleaned them. Blew everything out with air, and put the lid back on and reinstalled. This was after about 2 months on a rebuild. It runs like a top now.

Have Ken CT do your carb. Sounds like the accelerator pump is not working with throttle plates. Bossy

I would check the link that goes from the accel pump rod to the throttle shaft,up an down play from a worn bottom pin will some times cause a hesitaion on take off. Otherwise i would go through the carb again or send it out.Rubber AP's are bad news as are rubber tipped needle an seat. It could be the accel pump though.OMO ken ct.

I agree with ken that little link was worn out on my panel truck and it would stumble big time. Pretty truck, nice job. How do you get those clamps to seal on the rad hoses? I had to go back to regular worm screw as those things would just bend up instead of tighten up.

That's a beautiful truck. I love red Ford trucks, here's two photos of ours.

Re: give it gas, then it lurches! '52 Ford F-1
I am not a carb expert so I apologize for what may be a simple question...
But the test of the accelerator pump is easy isn't it? All I should have to do is have the engine running at idle with the oil bath filter off so I can see into the carb. I then can have someone step on the gas. If the accel pump is working, I should see some gas shoot down the throat. If I do not see the gas shoot down into the throat, then the accel pump needs work ??? Does that sound close? Fred |

In my opinion the blue ones are not much better.Neither one fit the bore very tight. If they manufactured the blue ones a little bigger diameter they might be passable. OMO. I use strictly leather ones. ken ct.

Is Charlie Price the only guy who still sells the leather pumps?

Good to know, Ken! I have a 2x2 intake that I'll probably be setting up as a winter project.
