Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
Pretty nice cars. I agree that their expectations are unrealistic. I'd buy the swan hood ornament.

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
Got two new tires today... Had them mounted and balanced on the '53 F-100 rims, brought them home and put them on the truck... Now all four tires are the same (and new) so, hopefully they will last a while, at least until I get the truck painted and put wide white walls back on it...

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
Heck I'd almost trade my 36 plus some for that 33! Nice group of cars.
Glad you got the tire problem sorted out, that looked nasty Vic. Black walls and trucks/panels look right.... for now. |

The ’33 five window was a nice car however it did have some body work done on the passenger side front fender but, because of the way it was situated in the garage, we couldn’t see any of the passenger side. The roof insert would have to be changed and the windshield “chrome” trim was pitted and covered with duct tape along the cowl area. I didn’t attempt to crank the windshield open… I’m sure if we had more time we could have gotten it started but we would have to move just about everything else out of the garage to get the ’33 outside. I was disappointed because we were asked to go look at the cars, etc. to give the women what we thought was a fair estimated value but, she acted as though we were bothering her and she knew more about the cars and their value then we did. If you would like to contact them to talk about the ’33 and/or make them an offer, I’ll be glad to give you the phone number, just PM me. Vic

33s are nice looking cars. That is for sure. On the bucket list of maybe's.... Or maybe nots. Hands full and definitely a happy ford guy already. Too bad it wasnt a better trip for you in respect to the hood ornament. Fun stuff though, always interesting posts Vic.

Too bad Vic. I guess she just watches too much B-J. When I seen the tractor I was sure you had your dream. Win some loose a bunch.

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
They were nice cars however very unrealistically priced... The 8N would have been a nice project but...

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
This morning I installed the carburetor (that I rebuilt) on the '53 F-100, topped off the radiator, fired it up, and took a ride to see if it would over heat... the temps (2 gauges) both stayed at 160 so, I let the truck idle in the driveway for about a half hour and the temps went up to around 175 -180... I'm not sure how it will act out on the road... Maybe this Saturday I'll take an extended drive to see what it will do. I was happy that it fired up without too much encouragement (after sitting for a few months) so; I gave the truck a bath... Here's the clean machine... New tires and all...

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
Well, I've driven the '53 F-100 Panel Truck on several short trips (running errands), the past two days and the engine temperature is staying right around 180 degrees. I'm happy about this but still apprehensive about cruising at highway speeds for an extended drive. Something caused the truck to overheat on the highway and all indications were that the driver side of the Flathead was where the problem originated. I did pull the thermostat on the driver side before I attempted to drive the truck home however, that did not rectify the problem... I guess I'll just have to keep messin' with it until I can figure out just what the problems are...

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
Check it out for soft hoses. They will collapse when run at higher speeds, RPM's.

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
KGS, Thanks for the suggestion. I did check the hoses, the lower two are after-market ribbed style however, they do feel firm but I don't remember if they have the "spring" inside them... If the truck does overheat after an extended run at highway speeds, I'll pull the lower hoses and replace them with OEM style ones

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
I was solo today in the garage... no one came over to play so, I messed with the '63 Avanti,
found the problem with the power steering but didn't have what I needed to fix it so... I decided to perform Motor Stables (the noun nomenclature used by the Army to describe preventive maintenance) on the '39 CS, '51 F-1 & '53 F-100. The '39 LZ is tucked away in the garage on the house with various house items impeding its exit... so, I couldn't play with her. I even attempted to clean the floor in the garage... After all this exhausting work, I took the '51 F-1 for a ride to a Cigar Shop and treated myself to a nice stogie... On the ride home I realized I had not had any lunch so... I stopped at our local Deli for; you guessed it, Pizza... Somehow, it's just not as much fun without friends to keep you company...

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
John, you know I can carry on a conversation all by myself... In fact, I don't get any disagreements that way... Actually, I had the radio on and I was groovin' to the sounds of the '50's, '60's & '70's. Slick (the cat) did hang out with me for a while... but, poor old Elijah didn't have anything to say... Maybe I should have brought a cigar back for him...

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
Vic;
No problem taking to yourself it is only when you start answering or getting into an argument with your self & loosing the argument. Motor stables had those for the drivers every AM. I was head mechanic, Got all vehicles pulled out for service that day so my mechanic helper had a place to sleep under on a creeper. I just took care of records, ordered parts & played cards & went to national war college for coffee. Well maybe a road test was in order @cherry blossom time around the tide pool. Ah the good ole daze. Thanks for the memories |
